Give a Mask and Get a Mask!

When you donate $25 to the REACH Shirati "Give a Mask and Get a Mask" project, we will send you a face mask as a thank you gift for your support. The face masks we are making here in the United States are made from colorful African Kitenge fabric purchased at the Shirati market, and sewn by our dedicated Bay Area volunteers. Order masks for your family and friends, they are a thoughtful gift that gives in so many ways! To learn more contact Laura Mason

DONATE on this page or send a check made out to REACH Shirati, PO Box 7776, Berkeley, CA 94707.

Be sure to note that your donation is for "Give a Mask, Get a Mask Project" and include your address. Asante sana!

UPDATE - Since beginning this project in April, 2020, we have raised over $12,000 and shipped over 400 of these gorgeous masks all over the United States.  This has made it possible for REACH Shirati to:

  • Purchase special fabric so that the Shirati Hospital tailor could sew 200 medical grade face masks for all of the staff at Shirati Hospital

  • Purchase the fabric and hire Mama Kiango to sew hundreds of face masks for all of the teachers, staff, and students at Tina's School according to Tanzanian Ministry of Education specifications (see Mama Kiango’s video HERE).

  • Purchase eight touch-less, foot pedal washing stations for Tina's classrooms, and pay for upgrading the latrines.

  • Continue to pay salaries for our teachers and staff at Tina's School.

Receive a Kitenge Quilt as our Gift of Gratitude

These beautiful handmade Kitenge fabric quilts are made by our Board President, Hattie Smith-Bynes, using the traditional and colorful Kitenge fabric of Tanzania that she purchases at the Shirati market.

Hattie's quilt collection is aptly named 'Unity, Diversity and Recycling', She unites these diverse textiles into a patchwork of vibrant color and pattern that reflect the beauty and character of the people who wear them.

Most of the quilts are about 4' by 5' with a lightweight cotton batting, hand tied with embroidery floss.

Hattie offers her quilts as a gift of gratitude to donors who would like to sponsor a child for his/her entire seven-year education at Tina's Pre and Primary School in the village of Nyamagongo.

Contact Hattie to pick your favorite quilt and change a life.

Donating your car, truck, van, SUV, boat, motorcycle, ATV, RV, trailer or airplane can help raise a lot of money for REACH!

In 2017, two of our supporters donated their old vehicles to us, resulting in over $1500 for our projects!

We have partnered with CARS so through their website you can simply choose REACH Shirati to donate your old vehicle to. They take care of the pick up and processing and WE receive the donation in dollars!

Your old vehicles will help young students REACH new horizons through education.
