PROGRAMSREACH Shirati was founded by Tanzanians, for Tanzanians. We are part of the Shirati-Nyamagongo community, and this gives us tremendous momentum in our efforts to develop locally inspired projects for our three pillar programs, Education, Heath Care and Community Development.
Thus, every project we design and implement is based on the needs and goals of the local population, as it is articulated by them. Once projects have been selected we engage our supporters and volunteers to help us fund and implement them. We organize annual volunteer trips to Shirati and Nyamagongo, typically during the summer months. Our volunteers participate in community projects, working and living side-by-side local residents. Many of our volunteers return again and again, forming ongoing relationships with REACH Shirati and the people they have met in Shirati. Many volunteer have sponsored children at Tina’s School, and have watched them grow and thrive over the years. Learn more about their experiences with REACH Shirati. through volunteer Stories. Our mission, to create life-changing opportunities for this rural community, is guided by our founder, Christine Nyanda Chacha's remarkable life. She credited her success to the education she obtained in this very same region. Her last words to us, in 2012, were, “Promise me you will not let our work die.” And we whole-heartedly made that promise! |
